Thank you, Cheryl, for hosting this fun blog
event!
I grew up in the sixties when everyone used
the ‘old fashioned’ large bulb lights. You know the ones that would get so hot
it was like touching a hot stove burner? Despite this hazard, I loved them and
missed them with novelty lights, like poinsettias, and twinkle lights came into
vogue. About six years ago, I found a pre-lit artificial tree with replica
lights of those bulbs. I didn’t hesitate. I bought it.
For a few years, I used my hodge-podge of
ornaments that I’d been given over the years, then I inherited a few Jewel
Brite ornaments (also from the 60’s), I decided only vintage ornaments would
due for this tree so the search began. I haunt antique and thrift stores in
search of these ornaments. I visit flea markets and go to auctions where my
only pursuit is finding these ornaments. Sometimes, I’m successful, sometimes
I’m not yet the pursuit of the decorations is always a blast. (Yes, I know I
can buy them on Ebay, but what fun is that?)
I did luck out and get many of my
grandmother’s Jewel Brite ornaments when my aunt downsized and had an auction
this summer which gave me enough to decorate my ‘vintage’ tree.
The Nativity ornament belonged to my grandma.
The long ornament, as you can see, was well loved by someone else and was used
on a tree with ‘hot’ bulbs and came too close!
Do you have fond memories of special
ornaments or Christmas lights?

I just use a hodge-podge of ornaments that I have collected over the years. I use to put up a big tree but now I just have a three foot tree on a table.I do have a box of ornaments stored away so if I ever go back to a bigger tree I will have them. My sister always bought my son a hallmart ornament every year for his first 18 years so he has those stored away. She does all the kids that way in the family.
ReplyDeleteHi Quilt Lady!
DeleteMy mom bought my son an ornament every year. Occasionally, I decorate my smaller tree with them.
I used to love the ones that bubbled. Now I have a lot of hobby horses and bells
ReplyDeleteDebby,
DeleteI think hobby horses are fun! Thanks for stopping by today.
You can barely see my small artificial tree for ornaments. Each one has a special memory. The decorations made by my children long ago are the most precious.
ReplyDeleteHi Mary,
DeleteI cherish the ornaments my son made and now my granddaughters.
My mom had a set of ornaments that depicted the 12 days of Christmas. And all four of us kids would take turns each year putting the star on the tree; I now have the star. Thanks for having the giveaway.

Hi Rose.
ReplyDeleteGreat name! HA! Your mom's ornaments sound neat. Good luck in the drawing!
Rose, our tree is always full of hodge podge ornaments! Each one has a special memory and or meaning (which to me is what Christmas is all about)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Gert
Hi Gert!
DeleteI'm glad you stopped by today. Ornaments do bring back fond memories, don't they. I have many that my Mom gave me.
I remember those big lights fondly! I also remember my mother trying not to curse as she put them on the tree. I, too, am a child of the 60's with some nice memories of the vintage ornaments.
ReplyDeleteHi Lori!
DeleteI remember touching the lights and getting burned and how they 'clipped' to the tree branch. Thanks for stopping by.
