I read a great story
I've been aching to read something wonderful, something that would sweep me away and thrill me. Not a re-read, a new discovery. I've tossed aside book after half-finished book looking for that elusive story. And there, in the midst of my towering to-be-read pile I unearthed it. And couldn't put it down. Halfway to Heaven by Susan Wiggs was a delight to lose myself in. It reminded me of a Judith Ivory story, with intense emotions and heart-touching characters.
I'm looking for others of hers now. If you have a favorite, please post it.

I believe she wrote Table for Five. That was a good book.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.susanwiggs.com/bibliog.shtml I have read her as well and she is a wonderful author! It is so wonderful to stumble on a new author-- it feels like you have found buried treasure!
ReplyDeleteI love that book!
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed The Charm School by Susan Wiggs.
I just finished another Jennifer Weiner book. I don't think she's categorized as romance though. But, it was "good in bed" and it was excellent!
ReplyDelete"The You I Never Knew", "Passing Through Paradise", and "It Happened One Christmas" - anthology.
ReplyDeleteWiggs' contemporary voice doesn't seem to work for me, but her historicals are wonderful. (And I have Halfway to Heaven in my TBR STILL - so thanks for the anxiety).
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend her Chicago Fire trilogy. In order - The Hostage, The Mistress, The Firebrand (the last one is a personal all-time favorite).
Great! I dug out The Mistress last night and started it and I have The You I Never Knew still in the stack.
ReplyDeleteWendy, I agree about her CF triology, I was on pins & needles til I got all 3! Halfway is GREAT! Have her site bookmarked & get email notices from her. Cheryl, she uses photography like you and includes 1-2 recipes-good reading, I just don't try. Missing her The Lily & the Leopard from 1 trilogy. Her 21 books I have are published by Harper, MIRA, & 1 each Warner & Zebra, 2 Harlequin. Mel, missing that anthology so another search starts! Keeps good company, shared title with Debbie Macomber, Jill Barnett in That Summer Place & Kate Hoffman in 2 for 1. You may borrow the box, Cheryl; ROAD trip or meet you somewhere. Katrina, I concur, finding Susan reminds me of the time I found Cheryl's 'autographed copy' Rain Shadow and Saint or Sinner in the 90's, overjoyed to find she was LOCAL!! But not met til 11/05. Hope to meet Susan & Debbie in Seattle next Aug when hubby has HS reunion. What a coincidence (I call them God-incidents) that Susan's latest read for me was The OCEAN Between US about a naval family & son David just got a Navy ROTC scholarship to FAMU in Tallahassee so we know what he will be doing the next 9 yrs!
ReplyDeleteCheryl, have you found Luanne Rice? Trying to collect her series and love her others; several made into movies.
Lucky, I met Luanne Rice in New London, CT. Got a signed book from her. She's very nice but very shy. I have a picture of us at the signing somewhere around here.
ReplyDeleteMel, if you find it, please scan and send to me, I'll post it.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who has pics they'd like to share, please send!
Yes. Mel, I would love to see it too.
ReplyDeleteI have The Charm School in my TBR pile.
ReplyDeleteI just started reading Luanne's books. I would love to see the picture, Mel!
