Moonlighting

Moonlighting ran from 1985-89

Dramedy, romance, fantasy, lightning-quick dialogue and even the occasional song-and-dance, Moonlighting had it all, including a will-they-or-won't-they relationship between private eyes Maddie (Cybill Shepherd) and David (Bruce Willis). Off camera, the two leads butted heads, but their on-screen chemistry was scorching, as epitomized in the series' classic spoof of Taming of the Shrew.

Were you a fan? At the time it was a highly controversial show--said to be pretty naughty. But I couldn't wait to tune in and see the two of them battle the bad guys and each other.

Sybil Shepherd was/is gorgepus, and I never lost my thing for Bruce Willis, the only bald guy who still appeals to me. I loved his last Die Hard movie, where he's a hold out from the age of technology, but still manages to crash cars and helicopters.

  1. I was a big MOONLIGHTING fan! Did you like SCARECROW AND MRS KING? That was another of my faves.

  2. Funny, I just borrowed MOONLIGHTING cd from the library. I liked the show and the MOONLIGHTING song by Al Jarreau. Another favorite of mine from the 80s is Dempsey and Makepeace. Only the actors who played Dempsey and Makepeace got along so well off-screen that they got married and as far as I know, they are still married to each other.

  3. I loved Moonlighting! Not only for the chemistry and comedy, but I loved the way Maddie and David stepped all over each other with those dialogue sequences. Nothing since has ever been as good or well done.

I also used to watch Remington Steele--for Pierce, of course.

It occurs to me that both these shows bit the bullet because the the male and female characters finally gave in to the physical attraction and consummated the relationship--in the shows, of course, not off-screen.

  4. Yes! REMINGTON STEELE! Loved that one, too. I wonder if these old shows are available on Hulu.

  6. Exactly Devon! As soon as they became a couple, so to speak, the sexual tension was gone. Same thing happened on Who's the Boss?

PLEASE Writers of Bones, LISTEN UP! Do not let Brennen and Booth to the wild thing!

  7. Loved Moonlighting!!! I'm with Devon---loved Remington Steele, too.

I loved both shows because the women were highly intelligent and could hold their own against the bullies.

  10. Moonlighting couldn't have been *that* naughty - my mom let me watch it :)

The Taming of the Shrew is still my favorite episode. It may be why I never had the "Shakespeare is boring" attitude. Good thing I'd seen that before we dived into Julius Caesar in high school or my opinion might have gone much differently.
