Drawing for a Cup & Saucer from Cheryl's Collection

My grandmother claimed her Scotch heritage compelled her to collect and save. Wherever it came from, the gene skipped a generation before it passed to me. One of my favorite collections is my teacup and teapot assortment. I can't remember how it started, but one led to two and two led to many more. My philosophy has always been: If one is good, a dozen are better.

My cups and teapots are displayed, so I enjoy them all the time. It's rare that there's not a pot of tea at the ready on my sideboard. At Valentine's Day and Christmas, I often have a tea party with scones and finger sandwiches and let guests drink from their choice of cups. (I collect cookbooks and recipes too.)

Roses are my favorite design, but I like other flower patterns too. I guess I could say, "Collecting pretty things is my cup of tea!"

Today to keep the month of drawings going, I am giving away a cup and saucer from my very own collection to one reader who posts a comment and leaves an email address with it. I did this once before, and recently saw the prize cup displayed in the person's china cabinet!

  1. Awwww...Cheryl,
My mother collected tea cups and saucers as well. Unfortunately, my dad auctioned them all off after she passed. (He's not the brightest tac at times). Your cups bring back many memories.
    They are just beautiful.
    Hugs!

  2. You know that is a horror story for a collector like me. :-( When my father-in-law downsized from the family farm, we bought the items we wanted at an auction. Fortunately everybody knows everybody in the community like that, and most people didn't bid against family members.

  3. GOODNESS!! You could start a Tea Room with your collection! How lovely! And of course, I love your books - gorgeous covers!! My daughter collects tea cups now. We always go to Sweet Afton Tea Room in Plymouth to get our fix. :-D

  5. *lizzie, I got your comment as an email notification, but it hasn't shown up here yet. Weird.

Your story about your grandma reminds me of our friends who co-inherited their parents' farm. The brother used a bulldozer to shove all the antiques into a burning pile.

    Nightmares.

  14. Cheryl, what a beautiful display of teapots, cups and saucers. Years ago I started collecting teapots, I find them so fascinating. It's like each one has its own story to tell. Well, seven years ago I almost died. The doctor said I had six months or less to live. I was put in a nursing home, my sons cleaned out my apartment. You guessed it, they threw everything away. Now I'm disabled and I have started over but there is no money to start collecting again. I do have my memories of my teapots in my head. Thanks for sharing your display of teapots, cups and saucers. Thanks for the beautiful giveaway. Donna

  18. Cheryl, what a beautiful collection you have. The ones with the roses on them are beautiful, but I like them all. My mother-in-law has a collection of teapots and teacups, she finally told us that she was going to stop collecting them because she was running out of room for them. I have a few but not many.

  20. Cheryl, The Tea cup set would be a great addition to my Tea Cart. I have High Tea at my house for some of my friends. I am in the Daughters of American Revolution and the United Daughter of Confederacy and whenn they come to my house I am in Period dress to make it more interesting for a High Tea.

  22. Wow, Cheryl, something new we have in common. I collect china too. Mostly I've collected Nippon but I have other stuff as well. My major collection is chocolate pots. I have 12 of them at present. Your cup and saucer would fit perfectly in my china hutch. I'd be so thrilled to win it, not only because I love china, but because it would be from you, something you'd owned. Yeah, I'm pretty sentimental, old friend.

  23. Cheryl,
What a fantastic and loving way to give something of yours to a loyal fan. When someone is given a treasured item. That item becomes a forever memory. When they display it, like in this case a beautiful teacup from their favorite author. Their story will include YOU, and YOU will be part of their LIFE STORY! What a amazing gift that will be! We are truly BLESSED having you a part of our lives..Thank YOU!!!!

    With Love,
    Bridgette

I would be blessed if you would add me to this.... bridgette_shriver@yahoo.com

  25. Cheryl,
What a wonderful and thoughtful idea. When you receive a special gift, from someone you admire. YOU have given that person a forever memory. Every time that person holds or gazes at that item, they will remember your special STORY. Cheryl you will be part of their life STORY. You have touched so many lives with your written word. You have already become apart of my life STORY.

    With Love,
    Bridgette Shriver

P.S. Keep on Writing and I'll keep on Reading, sounds like a perfect FRIENDSHIP

  27. I like how you arranged your collections of tea cups and tea pots, also what i like too is how you put the plates adding additional background. It's inspired me to do something like that in my collections too, actually each one of my collections has a valuable meaning because some are gift from a friend too but only one are on display. I'm collecting one piece per set like your giving away hoping to receive one from you too...thks for sharing.....
