I thought it would be cool to show you how the siderwort closes in the evening.
And in the morning, the little purple blooms are open.
This is in my front yard. I had one in the back, too, but the rabbits ate it. :-(
I just love the delicate little flowers.
AND -- Diana hasn't claimed her prize, so I'm going to draw another name if I don't hear from her by this afternoon.
Oh, so THAT's what that is in my backyard! Thanks, I didn't know the name of it!
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers and please enter me into the drawing this afternoon.

Skye, you must not have evil rabbits in your backyard!
ReplyDeleteEdna, if you want to be entered in the drawing, please send your address to me at: SaintJohn@aol.com
Beautiful flowers. My favorite color.
ReplyDeleteI had to respond to this post after looking at your newsletter and coming over.
ReplyDeleteYes, spider wort is beautiful and I love the color and the delicate tri-shape . . .
BUT
they take over everything and have roots that haunt me in my sleep. Ack!!!
I have to dig the darn things up 'cause they grow all over the yard. They spring up in the middle of nowhere. However, there is a patch of them near my back door that I do not let my husband cut down because they make me happy there. But then, isn't everything is a weed unless it's growing where you want it to grow.

You must not have Bunnicula in your yard! Bunnies ate the onbe I planted in my back yard. I moved it to save it but they found it again. The one in the front yard is safe. it's in a bed, and my garden is rather wild, but I haven't noticed it spreading! I wish....
ReplyDeleteEgad! Did you say you "plant them"????
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I don't know where you live, but I would gladly deposit a bunch at your doorstep. I have to dig them up with a shovel sometimes because their roots can get so deep--- and then, of course, toss them out.
I didn't realize the bunnies liked them. No wonder we've got a few that come graze in the back yard when the killer kitty is inside. (She's left a few at my front door).

Maybe we have different varieties or something. They are difficult to find here, and many greenhouses don't have them. It's an old-fashioned plant, that's probably why I love it. I'm glad so many of the old varieties are regaining popularity.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, we have to buy them and plant them. It look me about three years to ger this one going so nicely. I'm in Nebraska. Where are yu?
That may explain it! I'm in Louisiana near Baton Rouge. Your pictures look the same as what I see outside. I think everything just grows here whether you want it to or not.

Wowza. You can ship me a bucket of your trash any time. LOL
ReplyDeleteI would be happy to, though you might end up being sorry!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'd do it. YOu have my email addy if you want to give me a p.o. address. This would probably be the perfect time to plant them there since they thrive in the heat.
Fixing to go work out in the yard.
P.s. I don't think it's illegal to do that, right?
