A Reader's Bookshelf: Cheryl C.

Cher, this is my keeper shelf.  Now imagine what it looked like a few days ago BEFORE I took off 2 shopping bags worth of books for donation to the local library book sale.

What's left are the books that I just couldn't bear to part with!  My husband said that he couldn't really tell that I had taken anything off, but I assure you that I donated about 80 books.

I am not even going to mention the 2 boxes of books under my bed that my husband doesn't know about!!!  ;-)

Love from a certified bookaholic,
Cheryl C.

Thank you, Cheryl! Loved seeing your bookshelves.
I see some of mine. :-)

The Fun Couple

Kristin and I cleaned off storage shelves over the weekend, and I got hung up on a tote full of old photos. On our anniversary (July 1st) when I posted the few pics I had of Jay and I, I didn't have this one.

Free for Kindle today
Brenda Novak, A Baby of Her Own

Say Cheese

I haven't been able to get a clear shot of Elli in the past year. Oh, wait, I did take one when she fell asleep, so that counts. She is cuteness in motion, I tell you. When asked to smile for a pic, she shouts "CHEESE" and runs or spins or otherwise moves so the camera can't focus.

Readers Bookshelf: Liz Flaherty

We were remodeling (we're always remodeling) and had this big gap where long-absent double doors used to be. My husband filled the space with shallow but pretty shelves. It's where I have my keepers. (I started to take pictures of the shelves upstairs and they all yelled "oh, no!" and tried to hide.)

 =============================================
I so HEART this!

Oh my goodness, Liz, we are twins. We are always remodeling too! We have a space between our living room and kitchen that used to be a doorway, and my husband used the space for my kitchen collectables. I'll post a pic for you, and you will be amused.

A Readers Bookshelf--er Books etc. Betsy Queen

This is from my friend Betsy. We go back a lo-o-o-ong way.
She's one of the sweetest people you will ever hope to meet and she posted this for us from
the lake.

Okay Cheryl, even though I have only a tiny fraction of
my library with me, here's a pic of what I have.
My Bible, study notes that are printed out, kindle and
nook on the iPad, 2 paperback books and some
magazines.

I have loved to read from my earliest memories.
Boxcar Children, Nancy Drew, Little House books,
you name it. I'm still that way. I read to learn, to
escape, to travel on new adventures. I listen to books
on CD soI can knit and still "read!" even though I use
my iPad for convenience when traveling, (thanks for
the free downloads), I prefer the feel and smell of
paper books. I cannot imagine not having at least one
book on my nightstand. I think at home there are
around 30 or so clamoring for my attention.

A Reader's Bookshelf: Amanda Williams

This is one of my book shelves. I have so many different types: of books.
Suspense, historical, romance, and all inspirational.
That's not even counting the classics or westerns on my
other shelf or my Kindle.

I love to read. I'll read just about anything as long as its clean.
I plan to share my collection with my daughter
as soon as she's old enough to read.

Bookshelves: Phyliss Miranda

Like so many romance authors of today, I cut my teeth on Kathleen Woodiwiss,  LaVyrle Spencer, and Johanna Lindsey, so my shelf definitely reflects "my keepers", along with many of my autographed books.

This is the shelf that's a must grab in case of a fire. Yes, the books are two deep with all I can fit on top of each row; but please notice that I also have a decent collection of the classics, although I must admit I've ready few of them.  In my office, I have a whole bookshelf dedicated to the Fillies (Petticoats and Pistols) and many of our guest authors.

Big hugs, P

What Do You Think?

I got a new rug for the living room. What do you think?

A Reader's Bookshelf: Patty Underhill

Patty has blogged with me for years. I was excited to see her pics. This is a full-fledged library!

Love your idea of the bookshelf contest. So fun! Please excuse the clutter, we’ve been in the midst of a few renovations and rearranging things and unfortunately, my little library has become a bit of a catch-all. Can’t wait to get all of the excess stuff out so I can enjoy it again.

My claim to reading fame is that I read Gone With the Wind, in a day and a half when I was a teenager. My high school librarian didn’t believe I’d actually read the whole thing until she started asking me questions about the book, and I answered each one correctly, and quickly.

My Good Friend Carla in Madison County

My friend, Carla, sent me this photo. She and her sisters-in-law are in the North Side Cafe in Winterset, Iowa. Carla is seated on the stool where Clint Eastwood sat in The Brides of Madison County. Doesn't it look like they're having a great time?

Looks as thought they did a little redecorating since the movie was filmed, doesn't it?

A Reader's Bookshelf: Marilyn Puett

I live in a small apartment so my bookshelf space is minimal.  But many of the shelves hold double rows of books.  My tiara sits on the top along with photos of my late father.  My Squirrel of Mass Distraction and Plot Bunny play on the third shelf and above that is my “Academy Award” for Best Betrayed Spouse in a Leading Role.

Not sure what I’ll do when this one fills up.  I just might have to get rid of some shoes *GASP!* and put a bookshelf in my closet.  I do have a Kindle so that helps a lot.  It’s usually on the nightstand or the end table in the living room.

Thanks for a nice revealing gawk at your bookshelf, Marilyn!

A Reader's Bookshelf: Jamie Adams

Reader Jamie Adams mentioned her bookshelf last week when Mary was here. She said if she turned around in her desk chair, she could take a pic of both of our books. I asked her to please do it, and here you have them.

Jamie says: "I have a lot of your books and Mary's on my kindle as well.  I love historicals... I was born a few hundred years too late I guess. (actually living without modern conveniences would be a nightmare)"

Jamie's favorite quote:
You know you've read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.
~ Paul Sweeny

Thanks, Jamie! Love the pics!

Send me a pic of your bookshelf to be entered in a drawing for one of my vintage cups and saucers: SaintJohn@aol.com

Louise Allen's Drawing Winner & Announcing a New Drawing

Thanks to everyone who participated today. The names of those who left comments went into the fish bowl.

And Louise Allen's winner is.....

MeljPrincess

Congrats! Thanks for helping make my anniversary month special.

And a big thank you to everyone who joined in. There's more to come--of course--so check back often for more fun stuff.

Or subscribe in email over there in the right hand side bar. Doing so will deliver this blog post right into your email mailbox each time. That way you won't miss anything. Nothing Nada. Zip. You'll get the whole enchilada.

Thank you, Louise.
And thank you to every author who participated during July!

I'd love to do something to feature readers this summer. There's a reader post coming tomorrow, so stand by. But here's the deal: Send me a photo of your bookshelf - the one with your favorite authors or favorite books. You can include anything you like in the email you send me, and I'll write up a little bit about you or your reading habits. Or I'll quote you if you want.

A pic of you would be great, too, if you're willing to share.

At the end of August, I'll put the names of all the readers who sent me a pic into the cowboy hat and draw for a vintage teacup and saucer from my personal collection.

Ready, set, SNAP!!
