For me, it was white gloves and shiny black patent leather shoes at Easter. Don't know how we afforded it, but one year I & 2 younger sisters got matching blue dresses with separate capes! Did we feel special! I'd have to check the picture to see if we had hats as well. And I had an elderly aunt who always sent us handkerchiefs and ten shiny dimes for our bdays.
Oh, do I remember saddle shoes!!! My dad got into his head when I was in HIGH SCHOOL that his sister wore saddle shoes to school and I should to. That had to have been 30 years before. Needless to say, we had an arguement in the store (I believe it was the ONLY time my dad went shopping with me, thank goodness.) I didn't get any shoes, but I didn't get saddles either! Oh, those were the days......
Cheryl, I clicked on the pic to enlarge for a second glance. Is that a Howdy Doody purse?? I'm so jealous! LOL And is that a perm or natural curl? My aunt gave me Toni home perms; I was in 4-5th grade before I didn't cry from the smell. I envied my younger sister's natural curls until another aunt cut her hair (without my Mom's permission! Uh-oh) and it came back wavy but never curly again. Sue, what a hoot! Thanks for sharing your humorous story
Speaking of perms ... my dad (again, because of his sister) had my mom and I get a perm EVERY summer. From the time I was 5 until my rebellion as I entered high school. I remember the white gloves and hats. Oh, and the white socks. Had to look nice for church and everyone wore white socks, until we could wear nylons! Your welcome Lou for the story. Wasn't funny at the time, but is now. Oh, did you get the email I sent you?
Love the picture, Cheryl. You're adorable! But do your folks know you have the parental controls off? *g* Hi all. I've been away 'cause I'm very busy. I'm moving in April or May. YAY! OH, thanks for the cute comments in MySpace, Cheryl. I'll be putting in a picture soon. I remember wearing white gloves and dresses. I loved my saddle shoes and wish I could find a pair now. Anybody know where I can find some? Seriously....

ReplyDeleteLOL, Sue. My dad always wanted me to wear and buy yellow, because he thought it was pretty. I hated and still hate yellow. Unless it's pastel.
ReplyDeleteI wore the saddle shoes when I was a little girl! lol That was a long time ago! I wore the white gloves and shiny black patent shoes, too!

Lou, those are pincurls! My mom used to set my hair with bobby pins. My hair is naturally stick straight.
