Mom-isms

Ever find yourself saying something to your kids or your husband or someone else and you can hear your mother in your words? I've done it. Here are some of mine:

* If wishes were horses, all men would go riding
* Not everything in life is fun, you might as well get used to working at it

And here are my life philosophies that I expect my kids to be saying to their children:

* What's the worst thing that could happen?
* If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right
* What goes around, comes around
* If he doesn't treat his mother or waitresses well, he won't treat you well

What mom-isms do you find yourself using?

  1. I haven't said it yet...no kids yet...but I can see myself saying what I consider mom-isms and dad-isms (heard it from both):

Nobody ever said life was fair.
    Money doesn't grow on trees.

  3. Man, I find myself saying things and doing things just like my Mom does. I even have a pillow that says " It's official, I've finally become my Mother". I hear her voice in my head all the time. And, I dream about her. I've told her on the phone to please get out of my head. LOL!

  5. PERFECT, Liz! LOL

I kind of changed my take:
"Because I'm the mom and you're NOT."

  6. That works--or at least sometimes it does. (Or did. My "baby" is 32.)

  7. All I do is follow you around, picking up after you like some maid.

    Are you deaf or something?

As long as you live under my roof, you'll do as I say.

Call me when you get there, just so I know you're okay.

You weren't raised in a barn!

Don't sit so close to the television, it'll ruin your eyes.

Go play outside and blow the stink off.

How do you know you don't like it if you haven't tasted it?

I brought you into this world, and I can take you right back out!

I don't care what "everyone" is doing. If they jumped off a bride, would you do it, too?

I hope someday you have children just like you.

I will always love you - no matter what.

If it were a snake, it would have bitten you.

If you're too sick to go to school, you're too sick to play outside/watch TV.

I'm not going to ask you again.

    I'm not your maid.

    Life isn't fair.

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

I'm not always going to be around to do these things for you.

Children in other countries don't have ANY supper.
You're going to put your eye out with that thing!
