A Christmas Collection and a Giveaway! from Liz Flaherty

I love Christmas. A lot. A friend of mine collects Christmas snowmen and I teased her the other day about possibly attending meetings because of the depth of her addiction. But I understand. Because I’d be there to greet her when she got to the first meeting. Not that I collect snowmen. Exactly. But I do love me some ornaments. And trees. Cheryl, when are you going to start posting pictures of people’s Christmas trees again. (Said in a pathetic whine—could you hear it in my voice?)
[from Cheryl: Okay, you've twisted my arm. This year!]

So I was excited—to the point of jumping up and down excited, when the writers of last year’s Christmas, Actually invited me to contribute to A Heartwarming Christmas, a boxed set including four anthologies. Twelve Christmas stories in all. We are all Harlequin Heartwarming authors, so the stories are, you guessed it, Heartwarming. We had the best time writing them.

What? Oh, you want to know what that has to do with ornaments? Well, the anthology I share with Rula Sinara and Patricia Bradley (how did I get so lucky—they’re great!) is called The Gingerbread Men. We had a lot of hunger-inducing conversation reaching that title, believe me, and even more when we named our own stories. Writing my story, The Gingerbread Heart, also got me out there looking for gingerbread ornaments. Just as I feared, it’s a new addiction.

Since I like sharing and because I am so excited (I know, you get it already) I’m giving away a gingerbread ornament and a copy of a backlist book to one of Cheryl’s commenters who tells us about a favorite ornament. Thanks for coming by. Below are all the particulars on A Heartwarming Christmas. I hope that’s the kind of holidays you have!

This collection of PG-rated holiday romances are all set in Christmas Town, a location introduced in the 2014 Harlequin Heartwarming release Christmas, Actually. A Heartwarming Christmas will bring you laughter, tears, and happily-ever-afters (no cliffhangers), for more than 1200 pages. Foreword by small town lover and New York Times bestseller Kristan Higgins.

  2. Hi Liz! Congrats on this new story. The anthology sounds great. My favorite ornaments are some that my grandmother made out of steroform egg cartons, pipe cleaners and glitter many years ago. Granny wasn't a real crafty person and there's not a lot of artistic merit in the decorations, but they're precious to me. She's been gone almost twenty years now. When I bring out the ornaments every Christmas she's with me again.

  3. Pre-ordered the anthology and it was on my Kindle early this morning. Can't wait to read it. My favorite ornament would be an angle that lights up, given to me by my husband. Reminds me we always have angels watching over us.

  6. Congratulations, Liz! Sounds like a great group to be with. As to ornaments, wow...it's a toss-up between the tiny antique glass bell from my husband's great-grandmother or the tiny handmade ornaments we made for our first Charlie Brown special tree. And speaking of trees, I'd like to see those, too!

    1. They are a great bunch--I feel so blessed! I love the idea of your handmade ornaments. Do you still have a small tree you use? I have a couple of them, mostly because of special ornaments I want to use.

  10. Liz, Congratulations on your latest release. Your excitement is contagious. Now I can't wait for Christmas. I collect Santa Claus figurines. It's fun because its something people like to gift to me also, so I have such a wide range of them.

  11. Liz! Congratulations. My favorite ornament is an old glass church that had been my mom's. I do love all things Christmas. And those figures made with applesauce and cinnamon. An old woman friend (older than I!) taught me to make teeny teddy bears that were so cute and fragrant. Her hands were crippled with arthritis and yet she made these perfect little things and tied a tiny bow around their necks with baby ribbon! Congrats again, Buddy!

    1. Thank you, Muriel. I am having such a good time. I hope people like the stories. I have to admit, the whole thing has worsened my ornament "problem," but it's gotten me so in the mood for Christmas. And for baking...

  13. My favorite ornament is one someone gave me, I can't remember who gave it to me, but it's been many years. It's a crochet snowflake on a metal ring. It is snow white and I don't put it away as it makes me smile.

  14. Hi, my favorite ornaments, plural, are the ones my children made in Kindie all those years ago. They are a touch tattered and battered, but very precious.

  15. I love Christmas too. I made gingerbread one year but it was a lot of work. Last year I started on Crocheted ornaments and everyone gets one. I still have all my kids ornaments made through the years. I love them. And don't forget the Christmas pickle.
