Ruth Logan Herne: Sippin’ Coffee with Ruthy!

Good morning, fans of historical fiction and my buddy Cheryl St.John! First, let me raise a mug of really good coffee straight from the Keurig because I'm over-the-top in love with my Keurig. (The preceding was NOT a paid announcement, although the author loves getting paid and Mr. Keurig should consider sending me a stipend because I brag on his machines all the time.)

Ah. Getting paid. Writing. Let me be the first to say, there are lots of authors out there. All shapes, sizes, colors, creeds, kinds... and they do it their way. And I've tried the tips... the advice... the guidelines to successful book production.

Then I chucked 'em all out the window and sat at my kitchen table, at 4 AM, with coffee and the occasional cat and wrote.

I never post profile pics because of my big nose, but how cute is this kitten???? I then used her as "Sally-the-kitty" in my on bookshelves now release "A Family to Cherish"...

And it worked! I am currently finishing up my tenth book for Love Inspired, and loving it THIS MUCH!!!! (picture arms spread wide, happy dancing, music blaring, annoying the neighbors!!!)

So I don't have an eight-thousand dollar author's shed, a place of piece and quiet I can creep away to where no one bothers me... I will double-dutch-dollar guarantee you that I will be bothered many times today, but not at 4 AM.... And my office is a running joke of how can one person mess up a room that much and/or that often? Is there an office therapist? If so, I might need an appointment.

Like: weekly.

I have bounced my office from attic to empty bedroom and now back to the larger room in the attic, and oops... It has not survived the change well, I'm afraid! Cute author pics of an obviously brilliant, relaxed woman sitting on an ergonomically correct desk chair, with the beautiful window view showcased behind her?

Ain't got a one of those, LOL! And in the middle of the night, who cares?

Which is why I write then. Full time workers (or young stay-at-home moms) don't have the luxury of get away time, so we snatch time and space as needed.

Clearly I'm lacking in author aura, that mystical, special ambiance that sets me and my art apart physically. But what I lack in aura, I try to make up for in sweet, hearth-and-home books, the kind of books I like to read. And the kind of books I longed to write for years.

Today I'm giving away a copy of this newest release, and pardon me while I just kind of sit and stare at how dog-gone pretty this cover is... How can you look at this book and now yearn for those girls' happiness????  Sigh.... :)  And there will be a special surprise in the give-away package. So grab your mug or your glass of sweet tea and set-a-spell. It's summertime, right? And the livin' (while not always easy....) is sweet!

    1. BW, thank you! I love it too, I just kind of sit and look at it with a big, dopey grin on my face, LOL! :) Those two little girls are so stinkin' adorable on the cover and just as lovely in real life. I used two of our young "buddies" as models... and the art team did the rest. Thank you!
