Movie Review: Mama Mia

So, I rented a stack of movies for the holiday, and last night I watched Mama Mia, which everyone has raved about. I liked The Mummy 2 better.

Why, in the name of all that is logical and pleasant to my ears, did they cast a musical and not use SINGERS? Or dancers for that matter? Who in their right mind allowed Pierce Brosnon (how do you spell that?) to humiliate himself? I was embarrassed for him and could barely stand to watch as he tried to sing.

Meryl Streep did a fine job, and they chose a girl with a good voice for her daughter, but the rest: P. U.

Those were 2 hours of my life I will never get back.

  1. Cheryl,

I haven't seen the movie, but my first reaction to your disappointment was this:

    I hope there was popcorn.

  2. Magdalena I did have popcorn during The Mummy while my grandson Elijah was still up, but watched Mama Mia after everyone else went to bed. I did however, have a little sip of champagne, so that eased the pain. LOL

  3. Thank you so much. Combined with a friends comments, I now know that I do not want to waste my time. I love the music, too bad that they chose not to use dancers and singers for the movie.

  4. If you get a chance, watch the stage production. Touring shows have the sense to hire singers and dancers :)

  5. Although we have differences in culture, but do not want is that this view is the same and I like that!

  6. I'm so glad someone else was as unimpressed as I with this picture; I had heard so many good things about it but was profoundly disappointed.

  7. No, no, no, no, no, I LOVED Mama Mia. Not using singers or dancers gave it flavour...that was what made me smile all the way through. It was unpredictable as well as comforting to see these actors out of their comfort zone and let me not sound so bad when I sing along with them. LOVED IT!!!
