photoshop nightmare

This is the cover of a reissue of one of my Special Editons. I learned of the Men Made in America series from Jennifer Y and discovered that there are 50 books in the mail-only series, and subscribers get five a month until they have them all. Jennifer let me know she got this one of mine, and that was my first notice.

My friend *lizzie Starr's mom, Edna gave me her copy so that I'd have one! Isn't she a sweetie? And here it is, in all its PhotoShop horror. Do you think they could have found a bigger hat? Do you think they could have drawn a more cartoonish-looking dork? Seriously, it's a good thing this book isn't actually on shelves, because who would pick it up except to laugh? Impulse buy? Not.

Here's the good part. I didn't have to do anything. They reprinted and published and mailed out the books to subscribers and I get royalties. WHoo hoo! The other good part? It's still a really good story! *lizzie read it and asked how I kept from getting myself confused while I was writing it. LOL The whole point is an identical twin plays the part of his brother for fourteen years. The story was rather controversial in its day and readers either loved it or hated it.

  1. This gives proof of the old saw "You can't judge a book by it's cover!" I really have to get my books totally sorted because the story line sounds familiar; fear I may have this one buried somewhere! Have some of the original Made in America books and some of another group with pink & blue covers. Do you remember which those were, Cheryl, something about babies? Anyway, agree with your candid comments; glad you can poke fun at publishing horrors and still rake in the money! Lol. The upside is more will find you as a hidden treasure and come to know your talent and seek you out, regardless of that dreadful cover. Speaking of covers, just noticed Julia Quinn has some attractive ladies on her Russian editions posted on her website.

  2. Lou, those pink covers are Babies and Bachelors USA, another series set in 50 states. LAND OF DREAMS was included.

The original Husband by Any Other Name has 2 guys, one is a black Stetson, the other in a Nebraska cap.

  3. I loved it. Not sure I like the cover. It looks a bit busy.

  4. I have to agree with you about the cover, Cheryl! lol

The story sounds good though. I love stories about identical twins. My two oldest grandsons are identical. I have so much trouble telling them apart! lol

  6. Cheryl, I don't have anyway of sending pictures on the computer. I don't have either a digital camera or a printer.

  7. I just think he looks very happy :) Wasn't Land of Dreams GOOD! I sighed on the last page-- it was that much of a GREAT read!! I just finished Tenderfooted Bride and I cried at the end of that one too!!

  8. As I told you, this cover wasn't the worse Men Made in America cover that I have gotten.

I like twins as well...my 3-year-old nephews are identical. I have no problem telling them apart, but those who don't know them do.
