the beauty of nature

How cool is this? Look what I spotted on my butterfly bushes when I went out for the mail just now.

  1. Your picture is gorgeous. I have been seeing a lot of butterflies this year but never have a camera with me when I do.

  2. I ran right back in the house for the camera and then stood in the sweltering heat like a fool. I probably took 30 shots to get these perfect ones. Butterflies, keep moving, you know! LOL

I just got this digital camera, and I'm like a kid with a new sandbox.

  3. Is that a swallowtail? I've seen those only three times in my life.

  5. I saw my first swallowtail of the season yesterday, Really miss my butterfly bushes since we moved last summer. I do have milkweed at the new house for the monarchs.

  6. Maureen My thoughts exactly. We have 50-100 geese on the lake below our hill & I often have my camera in the car but rarely when I see them. Very lucky one day at 4pm when the wild turkeys were on their daily route, I got within 15' of them with the telephoto lens & got some great shots, including 2 in the trees. CSJ, I run rampart with my digital, too. the local photography shop had a free class last Sat. I'll keep you posted on the next one. Got 3 good tips. We are in a heavily wooded area so see lots of wildlife & birds, even a hummingbird once. LOVE butterflies. Thanks for sharing, Cheryl!

  8. Pretty. I've seen quite a few out in my backyard, too. No flowers back there, though.

  10. I think both butterfiles here are female. The swallowtail looks to have no black spot or scent pocket on its wing and the monarch has shades of blue. Both indicators of gender.
