Determined in Nebraska

I was so inspired by seeing my :::skinny::: friend Carla Cassidy that I've vowed to drop a few pounds. She said she modified the Southbeach Diet and after the first two weeks, the weight dropped off. I already had the book. Never had the motivation before.

I've gone two days without chocolate. Now, some may think that's no big deal, but for me it's like a junkie saying they went two days without their drug of choice. Afternoons are the worst. I always have a pick-me-up while I'm working - M&Ms, Hershey Nuggets, a Russell Stover egg/heart/whatever.

Phase one is rough-no juice or fruit. Oranges and apples have never looked so good. But after two weeks you body has changed and you start adding back things. This is, however, a smart eating style.

Anyone ever tried Southbeach?

What's the strangest diet you ever tried? I did the cabbage soup diet once. How ridiculous was that?

  1. I don't try and of the diets that come out. I just try to get more exercise and I try to eat the right foods. As much as I love chocolate, I try not to eat too much of it. It's hard! lol I'm a vegetarian so I think that helps.

  2. The only diet I've tried is not eating for several days. Due to my present circumstances I'm able to do this diet now.

  3. I've never tried any of the popular diets because I know once I "limit" myself I'll end up bingeing.

My problem is exercise. I am, quite possibly, the laziest person on the planet :) So it's baby steps. For now I'm trying to exercise at least 3 days a week and lay off "bad" food. Which means cutting my chocolate intake as well.

Amazingly enough, no one is dead yet.

  6. I've made it FOUR ENTIRE DAYS without real chocolate! This is a record for me, seriously. There's a suggested recipe with 1/2 c ricotta cheese, 1/2 tsp cocoa, a dab of vanilla and 1 pkg artificial sweetner. I added a little Jamaica-Me-Crazy coffee and it got me by the worst afternoons.

  7. *Gasp* Four days without chocolate? That's communism. LOL! I'm really into Peanut M&M's now.

Thanks, Carol. I've been eating. But stress has really taken it's toll on my body. Food makes me sick and I ache all over. Every day. I see my GP on Sat. Hopefully she'll help. Hopefully...

  10. We have tried the high protein, low carb diet. The hardest part was giving up sweets.

  11. I hope you feel better Melissa!

Well, I decided to try and give up my soft drinks...going to be very difficult, but worth it I think. I am seriously addicted...LOL.

  12. Awwww Cheryl! You're wonderful. And definitely my buddy! Thank you. I saw my GP today. When I get back from FL, I have to have physical therapy for my back spasms and for scar tissue that developed from breast cancer ('98) and my lung operation (both on right side). She upped my pain meds. I was shocked. When I first got to Newport, I saw a very mean nasty doc. who wouldn't help me with my chronic pain. My new GP is a Godsend.

Thank you too, Jennifer. It's so nice to have caring friends!
